Vermeer Corporation

Forage Product Marketing Intern
Summer 2024

Vermeer was a transformative experience that allowed me to deepen my expertise in agricultural marketing and communications within a global company known for its innovative equipment. As a Product Marketing intern, I worked closely with various teams to develop content and marketing strategies for products such as balers, mower conditioners, and more. I thrived in the collaborative environment, where I learned from industry experts and gained hands-on experience in creating marketing campaigns, writing feature stories, and producing engaging materials for both print and digital platforms. My time at Vermeer sharpened my ability to think strategically while maintaining a strong attention to detail, and it was an incredible opportunity to combine my love for agriculture with impactful storytelling.

Makin' Hay

During my time at Vermeer, I contributed numerous articles to the online publication "Makin' Hay," which can be found at WWW.MAKINHAY.COM. "Makin' Hay" is a platform dedicated to providing valuable insights and stories about the agricultural industry, focusing on hay and forage production. I worked closely with industry experts and Vermeer customers to craft engaging content that highlighted Vermeer’s innovative products and the producers who use them, ensuring each story was informative and relatable to the target audience of agricultural professionals.

In this feature story article, I highlight the transformative impact of the Vermeer HF400 feed wagon on an Iowa cattle operation. I emphasize the product’s advanced features, such as the optional scales, and how they contribute to improved feed consistency and efficiency on the farm. By detailing the experiences of the farmer and his dealer, I showcase the product’s practical benefits, such as ease of operation, dependability, and time savings. Through engaging storytelling, I effectively communicate how the HF400 feed wagon is helping producers optimize their feeding practices and maximize operational efficiency.

In this customer story, I traveled to Jefferson County, Ohio, to interview dairy farmer Steve Griffith and gain firsthand insights into his experience with the Vermeer 504 Pro G4 baler. I captured Steve’s perspective on the baler’s performance, highlighting its versatility in both wet and dry hay, along with its durable, heavy-duty design. By incorporating details of his daily operations and the baler’s features—such as the Atlas Pro™ control system and the 17-knife chopping system—I effectively demonstrated how the machine has enhanced his efficiency in silage production. Through on-site interviews and storytelling, I conveyed how the 504 Pro G4 is a game-changer for Steve’s operation and for other farmers seeking a reliable solution for their hay production.

Radio Scripts

I developed a series of concise and impactful radio scripts to support the nationwide launch of Vermeer’s G4 Pro Balers and Mower Conditioners. These new products are pictured on the right. These 30-second radio spots, designed for dealerships across the country, highlight key features like the Q3® cutter bar, Quick Hitch hookup, and the 17-knife chopping system in the Pro Balers. Each script was tailored to emphasize efficiency, ease of use, and the versatility of Vermeer equipment. By ensuring each message aligned with the needs of local dealers, these scripts provide a strong advertising tool to promote Vermeer’s new products and drive customer engagement.

Travel

During my internship, I had the opportunity to travel and gather valuable content for Vermeer’s upcoming product launches. I conducted interviews with producers who were using our equipment in the field, including some who tested prototypes of our new G4 Pro Balers and Mower Conditioners. These testimonials provided firsthand insights into the performance, durability, and efficiency of the equipment, helping us build compelling stories for our marketing materials. By traveling directly to farms and working closely with these operators, I captured authentic feedback that will resonate with our target audience and enhance the promotional efforts for our new product launches.

Ad Slicks

I assisted in the creation of ad slicks for the launch of Vermeer’s new G4 Pro Balers and Mower Conditioners, which will be distributed to dealerships nationwide. These ad slicks below are designed to be versatile marketing tools, allowing dealers to utilize them in various publications or other promotional materials for the new G4 Pro Balers and Mower Conditioners. They highlight the benefits of the new products, showcasing Vermeer’s commitment to innovation and efficiency in hay and forage equipment. By collaborating on these materials, I helped create compelling, ready-to-use assets that dealers can customize to reach their local audiences effectively.

Internship Fair

At the Vermeer Internship Fair, all 75 interns, including myself, had the opportunity to showcase our work from the summer to Vermeer employees, other interns, and board members. As a Forage Product Marketing Intern, I created a display board that listed the various marketing materials I developed throughout my internship, including radio scripts, ad slicks, articles and traveling to gather customer testimonials. My table highlighted the key projects I worked on, the skills I gained, and the insights I learned about product marketing in the agricultural industry. This event was a great chance to share my contributions to Vermeer and connect with company leaders about the impact of my work.
